A pilot project for the application of the Smart irrigation methods provided by TETHYS in the Cerignola Golden Palm Cooperative (Borgo Tressanti), in the province of Foggia, for the sustainable production of industrial tomatoes.
The Palma d'Oro cooperative was founded in 2015 at the instigation of cousins Elio and Lio Lo Conte and brings together 55 agricultural companies involved in the production of vegetables, in particular industrial tomatoes and asparagus. The cooperative represents a point of reference for companies in the surrounding area and deals with agriculture at 360°, also providing field assistance And transforming some products.
The collaboration with TETHYS was born from need to experiment with new technologies to produce in an increasingly modern and sustainable way, saving such an important resource as water, which in Southern Italy and Puglia is unfortunately becoming increasingly scarce and precious.
The project includes:
• the provision of the service TETHYS Aqua to some agricultural companies associated with the cooperative located in Borgo Tressanti (FG);
• the provision of user training sessions for the use of the IT platform;
• The direct contact with farmers and sharing virtuous irrigation practices calibrated on the actual water needs of the crops subjected to satellite monitoring;
• a final phase of analysis of the results and their dissemination to all associated companies and to the general public.

TETHYS and the tomato supply chain
Alongside the pilot project with the Palma d'Oro Cooperative, TETHYS is involved in further initiatives in the tomato supply chain, strong of theeffectiveness and of versatility of his DSS for irrigation advice.
Recently, in fact, was selected to participate in the third edition of the Food Innovation Hub, an initiative promoted by the Lazio Region and implemented by Lazio Innova in collaboration with Agro Camera.
This project sees us engaged in a co-design path aimed at developing innovative solutions for regional agri-food companies. In particular, we are working on a personalized service for irrigation management in tomato cultivation, also thanks to the support of tutors and mentors.
This further commitment in the tomato supply chain underlines the key role of TETHYS in optimizing production processes and in addressing the sustainability and competitiveness challenges of the sector.
