The Food Innovation Lab, promoted by the Lazio Region and managed by Lazio Innova, is an initiative that aims to support agri-food companies in creating innovative and sustainable solutions. Having reached its third edition, this initiative is a meeting point between companies, institutions, universities and trade associations, with the aim of stimulating the competitiveness and sustainability of the Lazio agri-food sector. The project involved centers of excellence for research and innovation, expert tutors and technical partners for accompany companies in the development process.
The Food Innovation Lab path has included an intense co-design activities, aimed at transform ideas into concrete services and products, capable of responding to the challenges of the sector, including theresource optimization, theadoption of sustainable practices and thecompliance with European regulations.
The project presented by Tethys
TETHYS was selected to participate in this edition of the Food Innovation Lab thanks to a innovative project focused on horticultural crops, with particular attention to water management. As already described in a previous study, the project was carried out on a sample plot cultivated with tomatoes and, at a later time, on a plot of land planted with carrots.
Thanks to Tethys Aqua, it was possible analyze daily water balance And estimate crop irrigation needs. Thecomparative approach between traditional irrigation practices and the recommendations provided by TETHYS has highlighted a significant water saving potential. In addition, a2024 Season Yield Analysis, which confirmed the reliability of the estimates provided by the platform. This project not only demonstrates theeffectiveness of solutions of TETHYS, but also underlines the added value that they can bring to the agri-food sector.
The Food Innovation Lab path has also allowed us to identify an increasing demand for tools for estimating yields during the season. Such tools are increasingly required by agricultural companies for Optimize logistics and the marketing of products.

The solutions presentation event: a moment of comparison and inspiration
During the event dedicated to the presentation of the innovative solutions developed with the FIH, held at WeGil in Rome on 20 November 2024, TETHYS was the protagonist with the presentation of its irrigation advice service, TETHYS Aqua, illustrated by Matteo De Sanctis, marketing and communication manager. De Sanctis explained how this solution can help farms manage water resources more efficiently, reducing waste and increasing the sustainability of crops.
The event was also an opportunity to comparison between participants, with numerous companies and professionals from the agri-food sector present for discuss the challenges and opportunities related to innovation. The participation of TETHYS represented a significant moment for reaffirm its commitment to the development of advanced technologies, capable of combining agricultural productivity and environmental sustainability.
