As part of the activities of theCommon market organisation<\/a> (OCM) for fruit and vegetables in Emilia-Romagna, a project was started in January this year research and development project<\/strong> of fundamental importance. This ambitious project, funded by Elle Esse AOP, aims to investigate the influence of water management on the syndrome Kiwi die-off<\/em><\/strong>, a challenge that is testing farmers and researchers in the sector.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Project objectives<\/h2>

The heart of the project is represented by search for the best solutions for the use of water resources<\/strong> and nutritional in relation to the phenological needs of the kiwi culture<\/strong>, also known as kiwi.
The goal is improve the sustainability of agroecosystems<\/strong> and face the problem with determinationemergency<\/strong> linked to this syndrome, which puts Italian kiwi production at risk.<\/p>

Kiwi dieback syndrome<\/h2>

There syndrome of Kiwi die-off<\/em><\/strong> it's a \u201cmysterious\u201d phenomenon<\/strong> which affected kiwi crops, particularly in Italy. This disorder manifests itself withwilting of the leaves<\/strong>, a drastic or total drop in production<\/strong> and, in some cases, it can lead to the death of the plant. One particularly worrying aspect is that i symptoms<\/strong> they start to appear during peak summer heat<\/strong>, which in recent years have become increasingly intense, putting further farmers in difficulty<\/strong>.<\/p>\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t<\/div>\n\t\t\t\t

Multidisciplinary collaboration<\/h2>

To address this challenge, theAssociation of Producer Organizations ELLE ESSE AOP<\/em><\/strong>, has implemented a research project involving several key partners. Among these, the Department of Biology of the University of Naples Federico II<\/a>, which deals with evaluating the health status of plants through experimental tests in the field and in the laboratory<\/strong>.
Likewise, the Department of Agriculture of the Mediterranean University of Reggio Calabria<\/strong> provides scientific and practical support forexecution of the experimental treatments<\/strong> and to evaluate the productive response<\/strong> of crops subject to experimentation.<\/p>

Our role: Evaluation Center and TETHYS<\/h2>

A fundamental aspect of the project is theintegration of advanced technologies<\/strong>, including thesatellite observation<\/strong>, For monitor the status of crops<\/strong>. In this context, we at Centrale Evaluative and our application TETHYS<\/a> we play a crucial role.<\/p>

Our technology evaluates the variation in the health status of plants<\/strong>, analyzing a wide range of vegetation indices<\/strong> and biophysicists<\/strong> calculated from satellite images. Our approach offers a complete overview of vegetative activities<\/strong>, of theevapotranspiration<\/strong> he was born in irrigation needs of crops<\/strong>, allowing an overview and spatial detail of agricultural field conditions.<\/p>

Focus on irrigation<\/h2>

One of the aspects on which the project places particular attention is the irrigation practice<\/strong>. It is believed that a accurate calendar management<\/strong> and of irrigation flow rate<\/strong> is crucial to counteract the onset of kiwi die-off syndrome. Proper water supply is essential<\/strong> to ensure that the plants receive the amount of necessary humidity<\/strong> to withstand peaks of summer heat.<\/p>

A step forward in kiwi research<\/h2>

The Kiwi die-off project<\/strong> represents an important step forward in agricultural research<\/strong> and in theinnovation<\/strong>. Theremultidisciplinary approach<\/strong> and the integration of advanced technologies<\/strong>, such as satellite observation, promise to improve understanding of kiwi plant physiology<\/strong> and of fprovide effective responses for agricultural companies<\/strong>, both in the short and long term. Furthermore, thespecific attention to irrigation<\/a> it is fundamental for the sustainability of crops.<\/p>

This project demonstrates how collaboration<\/strong> between academic institutions, producer organizations and cutting-edge technologies can open new avenues to address the contemporary agricultural challenges<\/strong> and preserve the health of kiwi crops.
