{"id":10987,"date":"2025-07-24T17:41:08","date_gmt":"2025-07-24T15:41:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/tethys.farm\/?p=10987"},"modified":"2025-11-04T18:26:24","modified_gmt":"2025-11-04T16:26:24","slug":"kiwi-die-off-first-results-from-2025-monitoring","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/tethys.farm\/en\/kiwi-die-off-first-results-from-2025-monitoring\/","title":{"rendered":"Kiwi die-off: initial results from 2025 monitoring"},"content":{"rendered":"<div data-elementor-type=\"wp-post\" data-elementor-id=\"10987\" class=\"elementor elementor-10987\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<section class=\"elementor-section elementor-top-section elementor-element elementor-element-7dd5430e elementor-section-boxed elementor-section-height-default elementor-section-height-default\" data-id=\"7dd5430e\" data-element_type=\"section\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-container elementor-column-gap-no\">\n\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-column elementor-col-100 elementor-top-column elementor-element elementor-element-3a718e95\" data-id=\"3a718e95\" data-element_type=\"column\">\n\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-wrap elementor-element-populated\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-element elementor-element-353ef5b3 elementor-widget elementor-widget-text-editor\" data-id=\"353ef5b3\" data-element_type=\"widget\" data-widget_type=\"text-editor.default\">\n\t\t\t\t<div class=\"elementor-widget-container\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p><br \/>The continues <strong>research program dedicated to kiwifruit decline<\/strong>, financed by Elle Esse AOP under the Operational Programme of the Common Market Organisation for fruit and vegetables. <a href=\"https:\/\/tethys.farm\/en\/ocm-moria-kiwi-project-step-forward-innovation-20\/\">After the launch in March<\/a>, the project comes to life with <strong>daily analyses on six plots in the province of Latina<\/strong>.<\/p><h2>Six plots under observation, to understand what happens above and below the tarps<\/h2><p>The <strong>2025 season activities<\/strong> they focus on a <strong>sample of about 20 hectares<\/strong>, distributed among three agricultural companies in the province of Latina. <strong>Each company provides two plots of land cultivated with yellow and green kiwifruit<\/strong>, of which <strong>one covered with hail-proof tarpaulins<\/strong> And <strong>an discovered one<\/strong>The goal is to compare the<strong>vegetative evolution of plants under different growing conditions<\/strong>, using high-time-frequency satellite observation instruments.<br \/>The monitoring period goes <strong>from March 1st to November 30th<\/strong>, thus covering the<strong>entire vegetative cycle<\/strong>, from post-winter recovery to harvest and beyond.<\/p><h2>Vigor maps and timely alerts: Watch as a field reading tool<\/h2><p>A key part of the project involves the use of <a href=\"https:\/\/tethys.farm\/en\/agricultural-crop-monitoring\/\">TETHYS Watch<\/a>, the service that allows you to <strong>detect the vegetative state of crops through biophysical and vegetative indices<\/strong>Each plot is analysed regularly, and if signs of localised stress emerge, the producer receives a <strong>timely reporting<\/strong>, with the invitation to verify the nature of the problem directly in the field.<\/p><p>So far, no critical situations have been detected, but <strong>the analyses highlighted variations in vigor even within the same plot<\/strong>, often not perceptible to the naked eye. This allows you to verify <strong>whether the irrigation volumes administered actually correspond to the plants&#039; needs<\/strong>.<\/p><p>The data collected in the months of <strong>February<\/strong> And <strong>March<\/strong> show how the rains initially covered the water needs, but already <strong>since April it has been necessary to resort to irrigation<\/strong>. Attention now shifts to the months of <strong>August<\/strong> And <strong>September<\/strong>, when \u2013 close to the harvest \u2013 the greatest irrigation inputs from the companies are concentrated. In particular, the following are being defined in greater detail:<strong> timing of the phenological phases as a function of the soil and climatic conditions and the cultivation techniques adopted<\/strong>.<br \/>This information will constitute<strong> a solid foundation for building increasingly accurate decision support tools for kiwifruit management<\/strong>, and they may also be useful for <strong>targeted agronomic interventions in the fight against die-off<\/strong>.<\/p><p>The project continues, and with it <strong>the quantity and quality of available information is also growing<\/strong>.
