Such phenomena put <strong>at risk<\/strong> basic crops such as <strong>fruit<\/strong>, <strong>vegetables<\/strong> And <strong>corn<\/strong>, causing<strong> huge economic losses for the sector<\/strong>. Without targeted interventions, Legambiente <strong>esteem<\/strong> that the Italian agri-food sector is at risk <strong>economic losses of 12.5 billion euros per year until 2050<\/strong>.<\/p><h2>The solution for the agriculture of the future\u2026<\/h2><p>One of the most promising answers to these challenges is the<strong>&#039;agrivoltaic<\/strong>, a technology that <strong>combines solar energy production and agriculture<\/strong>. On this blog we have already written about how agrivoltaics can <strong>protect crops from extreme weather events<\/strong>, <a href=\"https:\/\/tethys.farm\/en\/ocm-moria-kiwi-project-step-forward-innovation-9\/\">improving agricultural resilience<\/a>. Thanks to the<strong>Installation of solar panels on agricultural land<\/strong>, in fact, it is possible <strong>reduce water evaporation<\/strong> And <strong>maintain optimal soil moisture<\/strong>. Studies conducted in the United States have shown that <strong>in an agrivoltaic system, soil moisture is 15% higher than in unprotected soils<\/strong>. In this way, the <strong>crops<\/strong> benefit from a <strong>protection against high temperatures and solar radiation<\/strong>, preventing damage caused by heat waves and hailstorms.<\/p><p>The <strong>agrivoltaic systems<\/strong> I am particularly <strong>advantageous<\/strong> For <strong>medium-low crops<\/strong>, such as aromatic herbs (rosemary, sage), vegetables (peppers, aubergines) and forage plants. Agrivoltaics represents a <a href=\"https:\/\/tethys.farm\/en\/the-future-of-precision-agriculture-at-fieragricola-11\/\">additional source of income for farmers<\/a>, which can <strong>sell the energy produced by solar panels<\/strong>. In the context of the <strong>PNRR<\/strong>, have been allocated<strong> 1.1 billion euros to support agrivoltaic projects<\/strong>. Within the funds allocated by the PNRR, 643 agrivoltaic projects have already been presented with an expected power of <strong>1.7 GW<\/strong>, of which a significant part (56%) is located in the <strong>Southern Italy and the islands<\/strong>, an area that particularly benefits from this technology thanks to its sunny climate.<\/p><p>Agrivoltaics not only helps fight climate change, but also represents a<strong>opportunities for agricultural redevelopment<\/strong> and job creation in rural areas. More sustainable agricultural enterprises and the<strong>adoption of innovative practices<\/strong> are essential for a more resilient agricultural future.<\/p><h2>Support and policies for the adoption of agrivoltaics<\/h2><p>For agrivoltaics to reach its full potential, a <strong>clear regulatory framework<\/strong> that encourages the adoption of this technology and that accompanies it with advanced crop monitoring systems (\u201cadvanced agrivoltaics\u201d). Agricultural policies must <strong>encourage the use of photovoltaic systems on agricultural land and at the same time support technological innovation<\/strong>.<\/p><p>We have long been arguing that <strong>support for renewable technologies<\/strong>, like agrivoltaics, is <strong>crucial for the future of Italian agriculture<\/strong>, especially when combined with advanced tools for <strong>monitoring and management of water resources <\/strong>as <a href=\"https:\/\/tethys.farm\/en\/precision-water-irrigation-2\/\"><strong>TETHYS Aqua<\/strong><\/a>.<\/p><p>Furthermore, the integration of micro-irrigation and the use of purified wastewater are practices that could complement the <strong>irrigation advice systems<\/strong> For <strong>reduce water consumption<\/strong> And <strong>improve agricultural efficiency<\/strong>Support policies must <strong>focus on implementation<\/strong> of these sustainable technologies to ensure that agriculture not only survives, but also thrives in a changing climate.<\/p><h2>Agrivoltaics: a model for Italy&#039;s agricultural future<\/h2><p>Agrivoltaics represents <strong>one of the most innovative and sustainable solutions<\/strong> For <strong>counteract the damage caused by climate change<\/strong> and make Italian agriculture more resilient.
